Choose the product, not just the color
Compare a specific collection’s finish, profile, fastening system and installation instructions. Capped wood-plastic composite, mineral-based composite and cellular PVC are different product families. A brand name alone does not tell you which material is being quoted.
Make the old frame part of the conversation
Ask the installer to document the condition of the frame and whether the selected board layout needs more support. Diagonal patterns, borders and stair treads can have different support details. Include that work in the estimate before ordering boards.

Finish the details together
Think about the fascia color, transitions at doors, border boards, guard style and stair finish as one design. Request physical samples and look at them outside in sun and shade. A lighter sample may suit a sunny seating area; texture and cleaning requirements also matter.
Questions worth asking
Is composite maintenance-free?
No. It still needs cleaning and debris removal. Follow the care guide for the exact product rather than applying wood-deck treatments.
Are Trex and TimberTech interchangeable?
No. Collections have their own profiles, installation instructions, care requirements and warranty terms. Compare exact product specifications.
